Horse riding is not just a sport, it’s a partnership between man and beast. The physical and spiritual thrill of riding and the connection that can be achieved with a horse are hard to put into words but once you experience it you’ll be left wanting more. The Hong Kong Horse Riding Society is the perfect place to discover the joys of riding. Founded by Tommy Au Yeung, a former jockey with a lifetime of experience in riding, equestrian, and show jumping, the Society aims to promote riding in HK with regular courses and excursions to the countryside.
For HK$596 for TWO people (including free pick up services), this is a golden opportunity to get together with a friend, or bring your child, to learn what a fun leisure activity riding can be. Lessons are taught by Tommy, and through a combination of ridden instruction and demonstration over 1.5 hours, riders will learn how to mount and dismount, sit correctly, increase and decrease pace, communicate direction and gain more control of their horse. The class begins with 30-minutes of theory before riders take turn riding and leading their horse.
Courses are held at Tai Tong Lychee Valley, a fantastic slice of countryside in Tai Tong Village in the New Territories which is a unique place to spend an afternoon in it’s own right. In addition to the riding centre, the Lychee Valley boasts a multitude of activities to keep you entertained, including a mini petting zoo with ostriches, goats and rabbits, a mid-lake pavilion where you can feed carp, and also a war-games arena for the more adventurous. There are plentiful BBQ areas so you can really make the most of a day out!
